Terkubur jauh di bawah tanah, sepanjang perbatasan Swiss dan Prancis, merupakan eksperimen sains terbesar yang pernah dibangun. Large Hadron Collider merupakan hasil karya 10.000 pria dan wanita dari seluruh dunia, yang disatukan dalam pencarian mereka untuk mengungkap fondasi dasar yang membentuk alam semesta kita.

Partikel-partikel yang meluncur di lingkaran 27 km dengan kecepatan tak terhitung, perlahan menuju kecepatan cahaya. Di dalam detektor seukuran katedral, yang diletakkan di lorong bawah tanah yang luas, partikel-partikel tadi bertubrukan. Dari energi yang tadi dihasilkan, terbentuk partikel-partikel baru yang beberapa di antaranya belum pernah ada sejak alam semesta kita tercipta.
