Marking the closing month of Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath at ArtScience Museum, From the Deep: New Ways of Knowing the Ocean brings together explorers, scientists, filmmakers and creatives who are transforming how we understand and communicate the ocean.

Join Mark Dalio (Founder and Co-CEO of OceanX) alongside OceanX collaborators and experts Mika Chance (Digital Producer at OceanX), Kailani Acosta (Biological Oceanographer and Science Programme Associate at OceanX) and Jonathan Brigden (Managing Director of Studio Giggle and Distortion Studios) for a conversation on how exploration, science, technology and storytelling are reshaping our relationship with the deep sea.

Drawing on expeditions aboard the OceanXplorer and the making of Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath, the speakers reflect on the collaborations that bring the deep ocean into public view, and why expanding our understanding of the ocean is increasingly urgent in a time of environmental change.

From piloted submersibles and advanced imaging systems to cinematic storytelling and immersive exhibition experiences, discover how different disciplines come together to explore one of Earth's least understood environments. The conversation will also consider how museums, research organisations and creative practitioners can foster public engagement and inspire greater stewardship of the ocean.

Presented one week ahead of the OceanX Summit, a global gathering of scientists, innovators and policymakers, this closing conversation offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from the people shaping the future of ocean exploration and to consider what that future asks of us all.

She will offer behind-the-scenes perspective on what it takes to capture the ocean in the field, and how extraordinary footage is shaped into compelling stories, inviting audiences to step into the world underwater.

Kailani Acosta

Biological Oceanographer and Science Programme Associate at OceanX

As a contributor to the scientific development of Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath, Kailani Acosta helped translate deep-sea research into the exhibition's ecological narrative. She will share insights into the discoveries emerging from OceanX expeditions and why they matter for our understanding of the ocean.

Jonathan Brigden

Managing Director of Studio Giggle and Distortion Studios

Jonathan Brigden served as Creative Director for the immersive technology elements of Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath. Through Studio Giggle's work on the exhibition, scientific data and expedition footage were transformed into spatial and sensory experiences that bring audiences closer to the mysteries of the deep sea.
